Gearing Up: NFIB prepares for 2006 elections
01/ 23/ 2006

With mid-term elections just nine months away, NFIB is busy preparing for Election Day 2006. With the pro–small-business margin so thin in the U.S. House and Senate, it’s more important than ever for small business to mobilize before and on Election Day. NFIB plans to do all it takes to get out the vote for pro–small-business candidates in the nation’s 36 gubernatorial races, 33 Senate races and the most competitive of the 435 U.S. House elections. Here’s what we’ve planned so far:

1. Communicating. After successfully testing new communication methods in the 2005 elections, NFIB will utilize a combination of on-the-ground and online communications to reach members and select non-members, educating them on the issues and positions candidates will be taking on, as well as the importance of getting out the vote.

2. Keeping track. As candidates begin to make their moves, NFIB is keeping track, letting you know who’s in, who’s out and who to watch. Follow the races as they heat up this year at http://www.NFIB.com/politics.

3. Mobilizing. In states like Illinois, where one of the most watched House races will take place, NFIB is hosting candidate forums and other public events that will help small-business owners hear firsthand from the candidates about the issues important to Main Street. Check your state Web page to find out about political events in your area. (Go to http://www.NFIB.com/stateabbrevation. Example: http://www.NFIB.com/IL for Illinois.)
