Curb Appeal Counts
11/ 21/ 2005

by Melany Klinck

A little sprucing goes a long way with prospective buyers

If you want to sell your business quickly and realize top dollar, don’t underestimate the power of curb appeal. Even if your business looks good on paper, a workplace that looks ill-kept,disorganized or poorly run can turn buyers off. Boost first impressions with these simple steps.

On the outside

  • Groom landscaping. Trim overgrown shrubs and remove all dead plants and weeds.
  • Freshen flaking or faded paint. Pay particular attention to entrances.
  • Repair or replace shabby signage. Don’t forget to check window and door stickers, street side signs and posted notices.

On the inside

  • Reduce clutter. Organize paperwork, reading materials, supplies and your stockroom. Donate items you no longer need, such as functional old computers and out-of-date inventory, to charitable groups.
  • Fix or toss broken items. Critical fixtures, appliances and machinery should be in good working order.
  • Restore high-traffic and public areas. Replace eyesores like worn-out doormats and peeling wallpaper.
