Small-Business Owners Will ‘Take It to the Hill’ in 2006

NFIB’s fifth biennial National Small-Business Summit will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. on June 18-20, 2006, with hundreds of the nation's most active small-business owners expected to attend.

“In 2006 attendees will be taking their personal stories directly to their elected officials on Capitol Hill,” NFIB President Jack Faris.  “It is critical that these lawmakers understand the impact their actions and votes have on Main Street America.”

Registration is now open, with early-bird savings available. The first 50 online registrants will also have the chance to win a complimentary three-night hotel stay* at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C., during the Summit.

Delegates from across America will descend on the nation's capital to:

  1. Meet with lawmakers to tell them how what they do affects small businesses
  2. Attend workshops on topics like taxes and health care
  3. Get tips on being an effective advocate for small business back home and how to make a difference in the critical 2006 elections

Key participants and specific agenda items are still being finalized. Past Summit speakers include President George W. Bush, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Small Business Administration Administrator Hector Barreto, former First Lady Barbara Bush, White House Senior Advisor Karl Rove, and nationally known radio talk-show hosts such as Jim Blasingame, Oliver North, Blanquita Collum, and Jim Bohannan.

Faris said the Summit will highlight the political landscape heading into the mid-term November elections and educate small-business owners on how they can help maintain a pro-small-business majority in Congress.
