Vote on the calendar for early September
When your senators return to Washington in September, they'll face a vote to permanently repeal the death tax. They need to hear from you today to understand that the death tax kills jobs.
In 2001, Congress passed legislation to "repeal" the estate tax. However, a sunset provision included in the legislation means that although the death tax is gradually phasing out, it returns again in 2011. Estates valued at more than $675,000 will once again be taxed at 55 percent -- a unbearable burden for small business!
Small-business owners have borne the brunt of this tax for years, with cash-poor, asset-rich farming families and manufacturing companies forced to sell the family business upon the death of the principal owner, says NFIB Executive Vice President Dan Danner.
"The only real solution is permanent repeal of the death tax," Danner says. "Today small-business owners are in limbo, with total uncertainty about what will happen in 2011. Congress must provide small business with a firm footing for the future, by repealing this burdensome tax."
If the Senate doesn't act now, the death tax will continue to kill small businesses and destroy jobs. You can stop this deadly tax: Urge your senators to support small business by permanently repealing the death tax.
