Daniel Markels also named as new regional public policy director for small-business group

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- America's largest small-business advocacy organization, the 600,000-member NFIB, today announced its new vice president and its new regional public policy director for an 11-state area that includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

"I'm very pleased to join NFIB and spearhead its outstanding work and mission in the West Region," said Nigel Ives, the new vice president. "Small business is the bedrock of our economy, strengthening communities and fueling job growth. We will work aggressively to support small-business owners, organize their efforts and make their voices heard in the halls of government at all levels."

Ives comes to NFIB from Adelphia Communications, where, since 1999, he served as vice president of operations for the Metro Los Angeles Region, leading approximately 900 employees in nine office locations and serving more than 400,000 customers. Ives has served as president of the Southern California Cable & Telecommunications Association and as a member of the board of directors for the California Cable Television Association. He also was a member of the National Association of Minorities in Cable and a member and mentor for the Women in Cable & Television association. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of London, Kings College. He lives in Southern California, with his wife Corinne and son Daniel.

"NFIB is extremely fortunate to have found a man as talented and experienced as Nigel to lead our West Region," said NFIB Senior Vice President of Field Operations John Lanier. "Nigel's experience in member associations coupled with his tenure as vice president of operations for a large and dynamic business makes him perfectly suited to manage the growth and success of the nation's largest small-business group."

Daniel Markels joins NFIB as its new regional public policy director, bringing more than 18 years of experience in the public policy arena. After working several years for elected officials at the federal and local levels, Markels has spent more than a decade representing both private and public sector business enterprises on legislative and regulatory matters. Markels graduated Cum Laude from the University of the Pacific with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He and his wife Mimi currently make their home in La Jolla, Calif., along with their son, Nicholas. "NFIB is blessed with a team of 11 of the best legislative advocates for any organization or cause anywhere in the nation," said Markels, "and I look forward to working with each in his or her state to advance the small-business agenda."
