"So, what do these votes mean for my business?"
Good question! NFIB is opposed to HB 391, Minimum Wage Increase, and SB 790/HB 1284, Employer Health Mandate. Therefore, votes in favor of these bills, or “Yea” votes, are against NFIB’s position. Votes opposing these bills, or “Nay” votes, are in support of NFIB’s position. For example, a legislator who voted “Nay” on both bills fully supports the NFIB position.
If your legislator voted “Yea” on one or both of these bills, send a letter by fax or e-mail or call his/her office. Share your concerns that these bills could have a damaging impact on your company and those that you employ. Ask them to sustain Gov. Ehrlich’s vetoes of these bills.
If your legislator voted “Nay” on one or both of these bills, tell them thank you! Expressing your appreciation for votes that favor your position is equally as important as expressing concerns. Your legislators need to know that you are involved and following their votes. Take that important moment to express your appreciation. If they voted against the NFIB position on one of the bills ask them to reconsider their position and to stand with you by voting to sustain Gov. Ehrlich’s vetoes of these bills.
If your legislator was excused, did not vote or was absent, contact him/her and explain that these issues are critical to your business and your employees. Let your legislators know that their votes voice your concerns. Tell them you need them to support your business by voting to sustain Gov. Ehrlich’s vetoes of these bills.
