A number of manufacturing index reports in recent days continue to point to positive signs for the nation's economy.
The Census Bureau reported today that new orders for manufactured goods in May increased $11.1 billion, or 2.9 percent, to $394.1 billion. Another Census Bureau report indicates that manufacturers are also investing in plant construction and expansion.
The Institute for Supply Management released its monthly report for manufacturing activity last Friday, reporting that manufacturing grew in June for the 25th consecutive month. The institute's reading for June measured 53.8 percent, signifying an uptick in the growth rate. A reading above 50 indicates growth.
