NFIB/Maryland Leadership Council Chair John Slingluff (left) congratulates Calvin Reter on his Small Business Champion Award. |
MARYLAND -- Calvin Reter, owner of Reter's Crab House in Resitertown and an active small-business owner in the local community, has been named Maryland's 2005 Champion of Small Business by the state's largest small-business advocacy organization, the National Federation of Independent Business.
The national honor was conferred on Reter by the Leadership Council of the NFIB/Maryland chapter. Each year, NFIB singles out a small-business owner in all 50 states for special recognition and honors them with its prestigious "Small Business Champion" award. This is the second year the national NFIB has awarded small-business owners who go the extra mile for Main Street businesses.
"Calvin's commitment to the small-business community is clear by organizing local activism," said John Slinghuff of Baltimore Belting in nominating Reter for the award.
Reter, a member of NFIB/Maryland's Leadership Council, has been active hosting small-business meetings and testifying in Annapolis when needed.
"The most notable role Calvin has played is spreading the NFIB message and raising the level of NFIB's awareness in the Northern Baltimore area.
Reter also is involved in the local community and is an advocate for restoring blighted and abandoned property.
