Employer Immunity From Job References in West Virginia

Your help needed to ensure passage of pro-business bill

House Bill 2015 would give employers immunity from civil liability for job-related information disclosed regarding former employees. The bill -- which is sponsored by Delegates Amores (D-Kanawha), Michael (D-Hardy), Craig (D-Cabell), Morgan (D-Cabell), Leach (D-Cabell), Howard (R-Cabell) and Sobonya (R-Cabell) -- passed the House of Delegates by a vote of 80–17, with 3 absent and not voting.

The bill must now pass through the Senate Judiciary Committee before it is considered by the full Senate.

According to the 2002 NFIB/West Virginia State Member Ballot, more than 60 percent of the membership favored this type of proposal. NFIB/West Virginia will work to ensure passage of H.B. 2015.
