Presidential Race in a Dead Heat
11/01/2004

Small-business votes will make a difference

As the election season has intensified, national media attention has focused heavily on the presidential race between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry. Tomorrow is the final hour in that months-long contest.

NFIB members have been working for months to support candidates on all levels who will work for small business. An overwhelming 95 percent of those who responded to an NFIB member mailing have indicated they would support Bush, compared to 4 percent for Kerry and 1 percent who were undecided.

Yet surveys and polls only go so far, says NFIB Vice President David Voepel.

"Our members know that the most important vote is the one they will cast in the voting booth tomorrow," Voepel says. "All of our voter education and get-out-the-vote efforts are directed toward electing candidates who will support small business."

As part of its voter education effort, NFIB created a brochure outlining the critical small-business issues and where the candidates stand on these issues, based on public statements, NFIB Key Votes and information from President Bush's and Sen. John Kerry's campaign Web sites.

Use this piece as a guide to carefully review the issues that affect your business every day, and then consider how your vote will impact those issues. Take the time to educate your employees on these issues as well. You may find the presidential candidate comparison and the tools in the Politics section of NFIB.com helpful as you evaluate the two candidates.
