Critical Election Issue: Legal Reform
10/18/2004

Your vote can make a difference on the issues that affect your business.

As you look for candidates that will help advance small-business issues, one area to examine is legal reform. Small-business owners noted the importance of this issue when they identified "cost and availability of liability insurance" as the second-biggest problem facing them in a survey published earlier this year by the NFIB Research Foundation.

NFIB is fighting for legal reform on several fronts:

  • Abolishing joint-and-several liability
  • Capping non-economic damages in medical malpractice lawsuits
  • Protecting business from frivolous lawsuits

Friends of small business on the state and federal level are making progress on these and other measures proposed to end lawsuit abuse. But your vote by Nov. 2 is critical: you can stop out-of-control lawsuits, put the justice back in our legal system and protect small business with candidates who support legal reform.

"One frivolous lawsuit can put a small business out of business," says Dave Voepel, NFIB political vice president. "Our legal system is in crisis, and NFIB members tell us that electing candidates who will support legal reform is critical to the future of small business."

NFIB members, watch your mail for information on NFIB's legal-reform position and local candidates that support legal reform!
