6/11/2004
NFIB, the nation's largest small-business group, today announced that President George W. Bush will address the assembled delegates of the 2004 National Small Business Summit at its luncheon on Thursday, June 17, beginning at 1:15 p.m.
"We're both honored and excited to host U.S. President George W. Bush at the 2004 NFIB National Small Business Summit. President Bush has been a strong and effective leader for Main Street small business. His attendance at NFIB's summit underscores his commitment to strengthening the voice of small business," said NFIB President Jack Faris. "His address is certain to be a boost to our members and will make this year's summit our most memorable on record."
Meeting just blocks from the White House for three days next week, hundreds of small-business owners from across America will convene in the nation's capital to:
- Meet with members of Congress to urge their support on legislation crucial to small business, especially a vote in the U.S. Senate to enact Small-Business Health Plans;
- Learn how to make the voice of small business even stronger in their communities as they work to once again flex their political muscles and hold candidates accountable in the 2004 presidential, congressional and state elections;
- Attend workshops focusing on federal agencies and regulations, featuring issue experts and government officials;
- Hear first-hand from some of the most powerful and interesting people in Washington about how the federal government can help small business continue to drive the nation's economy.
In addition to President Bush, public figures scheduled to participate in the Summit include U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, Commerce Secretary Don Evans, Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Small Business Administrator Hector Baretto, former White House Communications Director Karen Hughes, political pundits Charlie Cook and Stu Rothenberg, Grammy-Award winning entertainer Lee Greenwood, and nationally known radio talk-show hosts such as Jim Blasingame, Jim Bohannan, Blanquita Cullum, Les Kinsolving, Phil Valentine and Armstrong Williams.
