NFIB Names New Small-Business Advocate
03/24/2004

The nation's largest small-business group, NFIB, today announced Michelle Dimarob as the organization's new press secretary.

As NFIB's new press secretary, Dimarob will advance small business' federal policy concerns through accurate and effective media coverage, securing a voice for small-business owners in the public policy debate.

Dimarob is a seasoned communications professional with eight years of Capitol Hill, campaign and public-relations experience. She arrives at NFIB from Widmeyer Communications where she managed public relations for corporate, non-profit and health-care association clients. Dimarob served as U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's (8th Dist.-Mo.) communications director from 2001-2003 and as U.S. Sen. Jim Talent's (Mo.) communications director during his campaign for the governorship. She also spent time as the communications director for the U.S. House Committee on Small Business.

"Michelle has been a small-business spokesperson for many years," said Mindi Boyagian, NFIB director of media communications. "Her advocacy work on affordable health care, tax policy and labor issues will be invaluable in communicating how Washington's actions affect the small-business community."

NFIB Press Secretary Michelle Dimarob said, "From costly litigation to high health-care premiums, I know the difficulties that small-business owners are faced with. I look forward to helping hard-working entrepreneurs by increasing their visibility in the media and ensuring the small-business perspective is included in coverage of issues important to NFIB members."

Dimarob graduated from California State University, Fresno, in 1994 with a BA in Communications Studies. Following her education, she spent a year and half in the office of U.S. Rep. George Radanovich where she helped with media outreach. She headed up media efforts for Rep. Emerson's congressional campaign and was state Assemblyman Mike Briggs' (Calif.) in-district chief of staff in the years leading up to her work on the U.S. House Small Business Committee.
