Businesses Avoid Paperwork and Delay With IRS.gov
12/08/2003

More businesses and tax professionals are turning to IRS.govto get new employer identification numbers (EINs), the Internal Revenue Service reported today.

Since the IRS launched its online application form for new identification numbers, more than 498,000 or 37.5 percent of all of its EIN application were coming through the Web site. By using the Web application, businesses avoid paperwork and the weeklong wait for paper processing.

"Making EINs available to IRS customers on an immediate and permanent basis is an important step in improving our partnership with the business community," said IRS Commissioner Mark Everson. "We want to reduce burden for businesses and tax professionals wherever possible."
