IRS Improves Online Tax Payment System
08/12/2003

The Internal Revenue Service has upgraded the Internet version of the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) in an attempt to make tax filing easier for taxpayers.

New features will allow taxpayers to: schedule all four tax payments in one session without logging out; access payment histories for up to 16 months; and organize and print out payment histories by date, tax type and amount.

Previously, EFTPS users could schedule only one tax payment and access historical records for a 120-day period.

"It's important to keep the Internet feature fresh and flexible to grow with technology and the needs of taxpayers," said IRS Director of Taxpayer Education and Communication Robert Hunt. "We will continue to listen to what our users want, and make EFTPS-OnLine even better in the years to come."

The IRS also made user-friendly changes to the Web site. Now taxpayers can change bank accounts, create a PIN number and make tax payments immediately. Previously, there was a waiting period before taxpayers could make payments after changing accounts.
