Small Business Economic Trends -- April 2003

Small business optimism lost more ground in March, dropping 1.4 points to 94.7 (1986=100). This is not a big loss, but the Index is moving in the wrong direction. First quarter growth is shaping up to be a repeat of the fourth quarter of 2002, but with more government spending and less consumer spending.
