Labor Dept. Steps Up Compliance Assistance and Enforcement
12/19/2002
The Employment Standards Administration released data from its Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) yesterday, indicating an increased level of assistance and enforcement of business compliance with federal regulations.
More than 4,000 OFCCP investigations resulted in nearly $24 million for approximately 9,000 victims of unlawful discrimination in the workplace, including a 20% increase in Corporate Management Reviews, according to the Labor Department. The OFCCP also reported that its staff had spent triple the amount of time working on compliance assistance workshops, seminars and town hall meetings.
Assistant Secretary for the Employment Standards Administration Victoria A. Lipnic said, "Particularly in OFCCP, our mission is to make sure employees are treated fairly in the workplace. Our investigators are striving to target workplaces where discrimination is most likely to exist and to more effectively manage their case loads."
