Recently, MyBusiness asked EPA Secretary Christie Todd Whitman for her views on small business. Below is a summary of the interview:
Q: How important is working with small business when it comes to environmental protection?
A: It’s extremely important. In keeping with President Bush’s plan for promoting an economic and regulatory environment where business can flourish, EPA has developed partnerships to break down barriers that stand in the way of progress and to give small businesses a voice in the complex and sometimes confusing regulatory process. More than 100 activities have been initiated to help small businesses fulfill their environmental responsibilities.
Q: How is EPA reaching out to small businesses as partners in environmental protection?
A: We are reaching out more than ever, often through our Small Business Ombudsman. Recognized through several channels as one of the best outreach models in the federal government, this contact provides one-stop assistance to help small businesses find answers to environmental questions and an ear to listen to their concerns and views. The Ombudsman serves as an advocate for small business interests inside the Agency. When issues affecting small businesses arise, they are at the table to make sure small business interests are factored in.
