Northern Virginia Area Action Council Kicks off to a Great Start!
06/03/2002
VIRGINIA, May 16, 2002 -- Small business owners in northern Virginia now have somewhere to meet and discuss political issues facing them and their businesses. A group of NFIB members attended the Northern Virginia Area Action Council planning meeting in Falls Church, VA. There they met with Steve Woods- Vice President of NFIB for State Public Policy, Jeanne Strobel-SE Regional Member Activism Coordinator, and Gordon Dixon-State Director. The meeting basically consisted of getting to know each other and brainstorming how to make this Area Action Council work for each of them. This is the first council to be formed in Virginia, but is a nationwide program to organize members and promote grassroots activism.
TR Cook, owner of Cook's Photo-Art Studio, was elected chairman of the council. Other attendee's were: Mike Thompson, Thomas Jefferson Institute; David Cullen, David Cullen Public Relations; Jorge Lozano, Condortech Services, Inc.; John Nicholson, Company Flowers; Doug Cox, Capitol Audio Visual, Inc.; Phil Rosenthal, Nationwide Credit Corporation; Abe Schneier, Abraham Schneier and Associates; Pete Richter, Comfort Doctor; and Tony Stirk, Iron Horse.
The Northern Virginia Area Action Council is going to provide an opportunity for NFIB members to gather together to meet with elected policy makers, give input to NFIB on issues facing small business, participate in state and federal election activities and network with fellow NFIB members. Members will take on the additional leadership role of bringing key small business issues to the attention of state and federal legislators. The council also provides a forum to educate small-business owners and increase their awareness on small-business issues pending before the state and federal governments.
Other meetings will take place in the summer and fall. If you too would like to be part of the NVAAC, contact Meagan Kenny at 804.643.0043 or via e-mail: Meagan.Kenny@NFIB.org.
