Keep Your Business Secure
05/ 28/ 2002

Sending sensitive data such as social security numbers or account numbers across the Internet opens your business to security threats. Be aware of the top causes for security holes:

  • Having weak passwords or no passwords;
  • Failing to upgrade operating systems and browsers;
  • Leaving the computer continuously logged on or logged in to the network;
  • Allowing users access to more network resources than they need.
Ways to fix these flaws:

  • Make passwords six to eight characters long and use both numbers and letters;
  • Institute a lockout after three login tries;
  • Eliminate inactive user IDs;
  • Change default configurations and passwords often.
