Help in Integrating Your Work and Life
05/ 28/ 2002

E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It, by Michael Gerber (HarperBusiness, $16). The "E-Myth" that author Gerber refers to is the myth of the entrepreneur, the romantic belief that small businesses are started by entrepreneurs. Gerber differentiates between people who are very good at the doing a job - a fabulous baker, a master electrician - who get into trouble when they open their own company and realize they aren't good businesspeople. Gerber offers a detailed plan to help you figure out how to better run your business, instead of simply working in it.

Office Spa: Stress Relief for the Working Week, by Darrin Zeer (Chronicle Books, $9.95). This is an attractive little book with 50 simple stress-relieving exercises and ways to nurture yourself to gain perspective on the bigger picture.

Big Vision, Small Business: The Four Keys to Finding Success & Satisfaction as a Lifestyle Entrepreneur, by Jamie Walters (Ivy Sea, $24.95). Through interviews with small business owners who stayed true to their dream of owning a small business without letting it run their lives, the author offers perspective and advice on integrating your work and life.

This Web extra is a supplement to the MyBUSINESS story, "Get Back Your Life," which appears in the June/July 2002 issue.
