Every town or city, no matter the size, has certain buildings that allow or even encourage local small companies to showcase their products and services, free of charge. Think of the last time you were waiting for a flight, bus or train. You probably walked past one or more exhibits placed or sponsored by private local businesses. In today's workshop, Jeffrey Moses explains how to utilize this method of gaining exposure for your business with very little expense.
Many types of businesses have lobbies and central entranceways in which local companies can showcase their wares. These include, among others:
- Airports (regional and local)
- Bus and train stations
- Malls
- Hotels
- Banks
- Sports complexes
- Large office buildings and business complexes
- State/county travel bureaus
- Trade-fair areas of state fairs or other special events
- Libraries
When contacting officials about the possibility of putting up a display, visit or call the executive offices, which may not be on premises. Ask for the individual in charge of displays for the organization's lobbies. Give a brief description of your business and the type of display you're thinking about doing.
If the concept is new to the building's executive officers, describe the benefits to them. Stress, for example, that attractive and informative displays occupy travelers and visitors and enhance the beauty of the interior environment.
The ideal location for your business to put up a display is in a lobby or entranceway that already has display windows or cases. The construction of glass display cases, along with the designing of your display, can be somewhat costly. So unless you already have displays (such as those used for trade convention booths) or can construct them yourself at little cost, focus on establishments and companies that have already put up displays by small businesses.
