Ergo Guideline Announcement Expected Today
04/05/2002
The Bush administration today is expected to propose voluntary guidelines for
employers to protect workers against repetitive-stress injuries, the Wall Street
Journal reports.
Ergo regulations imposed during the Clinton administration were repealed by
Congress early last year. The costly Clinton-era mandates would have affected
6.1 million workplaces. Small business owners opposed the mandates because of
the questionable science on which they were based.
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) opposes the White House's decision because he
believes any ergonomics guidelines should be mandatory. Kennedy said the
expected proposals were "a win for industry."
