NFIB/Ohio Leadership Council Member Jenny Baader: An American Dream Come True
01/30/2002

You can thank the Baader Brown Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Ohio for keeping your children safe while they're on their way to school.

Jenny Baader's father-in-law, Joe Baader, started making flashing lights for school buses in his garage in 1955. As the business grew, he needed to make use of his father's garage to store the inventory. In 1960, Baader built a small shop as the first part of his facility. In 1968 and 1976, the company added on two additional buildings to house their operations.

"We strive to make top quality products at competitive prices while providing a good place for our employees to work and provide a service to our community," said Baader. "Our products are the top of the line." Baader Brown also produces lights and fans for school buses. Most of what the company manufactures is sold outside the state of Ohio.

Baader, whose background was that of a registered nurse, became Vice President in 1996. She indicated that being an NFIB member gives her a format to approach local legislators on issues that will not only affect Baader Brown's business but the company's employees as well. "It gives me the opportunity to meet with other small-business owners and make our voice heard on various issues."

Baader feels it's important to get involved in NFIB/Ohio. "Members' concerns can only be heard when they are active," she said. Baader also encourages members to take the time to fill out and return NFIB member ballots, as this is the information that helps the organization shape its policies. She has both testified before legislative committees on behalf of NFIB/Ohio and participated in a press conference in June, 2001 with U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich on the Patients Bill of Rights.

Baader has been appointed to both the Clark County Workforce Development Board and the Clark State Community College Board of Trustees. The appointments allow Baader to help do what's best for business as well as job seekers. "The community has training, retraining and developmental needs. I am dedicated to finding ways to fulfill those needs," Baader said.
