Start at the source. The IRS has posted about 50 guidebooks on its Web site, and they can be downloaded for free. A list of the guidebooks is located at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/prod/bus_info/mssp/index.html

CCH, Inc., in Riverwoods, Ill., publishes small business reports on tax and management issues. There are two Web sites with plenty of tax information (http://www.toolkit.cch.com and http://www.completetax.com).

What the IRS Doesn't Want You to Know: A CPA Reveals the Tricks of the Trade, by Martin S. Kaplan and Namoi Weiss (Villard, $16.95), offers a comprehensive list of strategies this former CPA used to save money on tax returns.
