Celebrate untraditional holidays
Did your business promotional mailings get lost in the December holiday mail avalanche? Celebrate unusual holidays appropriate to your business to stand out, suggests Nancy Michaels and Debbi J. Karpowicz, authors of Off-the-Wall Marketing Ideas (Adams Media Corp., $10.95).
Michaels's company, Impression Impact, at http://www.impressionimpact.com, celebrates Chinese New Year's. Because the February holiday comes after the Christmas rush, her mailings tend to be remembered.
Safar Coiffure, one of Boston's leading hair salons, celebrated July 14th, Bastille Day, by offering free French manicures to everyone who had their hair done that day. Several local newspapers picked up the story, resulting in free publicity.
You can also make up your own marketing holiday. Just submit your application to Chase's Calender of Events, at http://www.chases.com, or 1.800.323.4900. It's a day-by-day directory of nationwide festivals, celebrity birthdays and more. (Like National Puzzle Day, Jan. 29.)
