Business 2010: Five Forces that Will Reshape Business -- and How to Make them Work for You, by Fred Harmon (Kiplinger, $29.95).

Here's a big picture book that helps put the scary idea of the future in manageable terms. Author Harmon cuts down all the talk about change in business to two questions: What do you need to know to exploit opportunity fully over the next 10 years? and What are the most important actions that you need to take today to stay ahead of the competition? Harmon breaks the discussion down into five forces: technology, the spead of freedom, education, demographics and globalization. The strategies he offers to best position your company for the future aren't earth-shattering -- accelerate response time, develop all your people all the time -- but he distills the concepts down into a way that's easy to understand. Rather than overwhelming, this is a change book that leaves the reader excited about the opportunities for the future.
