Information Rules: A Strategic Guide to the Network Economy, by Carl Shapiro and Hal R. Varian (Harvard Business Press, $20).Here is an excellent strategic guide to the network economy. The thesis of the book is that "durable economic principles can guide you in today's frenetic business environment. Technology changes. Economic laws do not." The authors define information as "anything that can be digitized -- encoded in a stream of bits." Throughout their analysis, they offer several sets of "Lessons" which (all by themselves) are worth the cost of the book.
