Where Things Stand on Healthcare Reform

Earlier this week, the Senate Finance Committee passed its highly publicized healthcare reform bill. This is an important milestone in what remains to be a long legislative process. To date, the Finance bill is the only congressional proposal that includes the market reforms so desperately needed by small businesses.

Moving forward, there are a number of actions that will unfold on Capitol Hill as both the U.S. Senate and House begin the complex process of merging competing bills. To read a quick run-down describing the next steps of the legislative process, click here.

As we move closer to floor debate, small business must weigh the benefits of reform against the potential new costs of doing business. Small businesses will have a difficult time supporting a final health reform package if its long-term costs outweigh the benefits we have worked to secure.

We remain committed to supporting reform efforts that provide more affordable and accessible healthcare options for small employers and their workers. It is essential that a final bill makes their core needs and common-sense solutions a priority.
