SC Legislature Holds Special Session on Unemployment Benefits

Lawmakers returned to Columbia on Tuesday, Oct. 27, for an expected two-day special session on unemployment benefits and other issues.

The session was called so legislators could make technical changes that would extend unemployment benefits for as many as 30,000 people.

Officials said earlier that benefits for some people would soon run out because of technical changes needed in state law.

The technical changes were not expected to have an immediate impact on employers.

The special session also included work on an economic incentives package to lure a Boeing aircraft manufacturing plant to the Charleston area.
