Join our Electricity Buying Program in Maryland
When the basic costs of doing business suddenly spike, it can challenge your plans for business growth. Take, for example, the cost to purchase electricity for your business. The results of NFIB's most recent Small Business Problems and Priorities survey revealed that energy costs rank among the top ten most-pressing problems for small business owners. The unpredictability of electricity prices can make it difficult to plan your finances accordingly, and even a small, unexpected rate increase can have adverse effects on your bottom line.
Beginning in the mid-1990s, a number of states passed legislation to deregulate the utility industry and established competitive energy markets that empower customers to choose an energy supplier other than their regional utility. Businesses in these deregulated states can “shop” for their electricity supply and choose the supplier that provides the rate per kilowatt hour, contract structure and related services that best suit their business needs.
To help you take advantage of deregulation, NFIB is offering a new benefit to its members--an electricity purchasing program. Beginning with the state of Maryland, members in select areas can elect to purchase electricity through a “fixed price” electricity product. A fixed price electricity product locks in the rate per kilowatt hour of the supply portion of your electricity bill for an agreed-upon period of time. Benefits: During this time, the generation portion of your electricity rate will not increase. A fixed price electricity product can help you project your energy budget more accurately and protect your bottom line from rising energy costs.
Visit www.directenergybusiness.com/nfib to learn if your business location can be serviced through this program. You can also call a Direct Energy Business account representative at 866.967.NFIB (6342) to learn more about the program and obtain a no obligation quote on a fixed rate electricity product for your business. Direct Energy Business will take the time to fully understand your business objectives and electricity usage requirements before providing a recommendation.
Note: This service is only available to electricity service classified as commercial. In addition, you must be served by a regional utility that has a customer choice program. Call your utility to see if this option is available. Customer choice programs are generally not available to businesses served by municipally-owned utilities and certain electricity co-ops.
