Small-business owners are breathing a little easier with some of the burden from the notorious "margin tax," or revised franchise tax, lifted for a couple of years.
The National Federation of Independent Business, Texas’ leading small business association, released the following statement on June 30, 2009, from Executive Director Will Newton, regarding the Special Session of the 81st Texas Legislature.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs recently published an online tax calculator to assist small business owners who want to estimate their new tax bill under the revised tax structure. NFIB members across Texas will be affected by this new margins tax, also called the revised franchise tax, which will be collected on May 15 for a business’ gross receipts for the 2007 calendar year.
Many small business owners will soon be feeling the affects of the new Texas Margins Tax. NFIB/Texas has been the only statewide organization fighting to reform this onerous new tax.
