Healthcare. Small business owners are desperate to get some relief from double-digit percentage rate increases in premium. We must have more transparency in the system so small businesses can do a better job comparing and pricing their healthcare options.
Second Injury Fund. The fund, which pays injured employees for a prior injury, is running out of money. Some in state government believe that employers should be financially responsible for payments to disabled workers once the fund becomes insolvent. We’re working closely with our elected officials on a solution to this looming problem.
Unemployment insurance. Missouri’s unemployment trust fund is broke. This spring, lawmakers voted to expand unemployment benefits in hopes of qualifying for $133 million in federal economic stimulus money. Once the money runs out, the General Assembly may vote to raise payroll taxes on businesses. We’re working with other business groups to find a commonsense solution to the problem.
