Tax Counsel Bill Rys was part of a panel discussion at the White House yesterday discussing small business tax issues. The complexity of the tax code is a costly headache to most small business owners, and simplifying the code also could improve compliance. (Many tax experts believe the failure of small businesses to pay all their taxes is a main source of the large, annual gap between federal taxes owed and paid, leading some to propose targeting small business for more enforcement.)
