SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 15, 2009 – The National Federation of Independent
Business/California issued the following statement today in response to committee hearing on SB 810 – Single Payer Healthcare:
“The economy is down, the unemployment rate is up, and yet once again our legislators have both the audacity and ignorance to entertain the failed concept of government-run healthcare. There is never a good time or reason to hand over control of our healthcare to government bureaucrats, but it is especially inappropriate when our economy is on a downward spiral and Californians are losing jobs, businesses and homes at a record pace. Are small business owners and taxpayers confident that the same elected officials that have mismanaged our state into a multibillion dollar deficit would truly run our complex system of health care with greater precision and care?”
“Small businesses are supportive of sustainable healthcare reform that includes discussions about affordability, transparency and portability. However, it is patently false for our state leaders to assert that true reform will be achieved by creating yet another massive and costly government program that will ultimately result in the rationing of care for those who truly need it and driving our state further into debt.”
