NFIB points to nominee’s fight against federal overreach while serving as Oklahoma Attorney General

Washington, D.C. (January 18, 2017) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading advocate for small businesses, today called on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to confirm Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator.
“Scott Pruitt has been a strong voice against runaway EPA regulations, which are paralyzing to small business,” said NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan. “For 96 consecutive months, government red tape and regulation have been a top concern among small business owners. We are confident that Scott Pruitt will reform the EPA, which is long overdue.”
NFIB is a plaintiff in separate cases against the EPA Waters of the U.S. rule and the EPA Clean Power Plan. The Waters of the U.S. rule expands the EPA’s power over local land use decisions. It would force business owners to get federal permits, which could cost tens of thousands of dollars, to develop or improve properties on which there is any form of water, including ponds, streams and even dry creeks.
The Clean Power Plan would force states to abandon coal-produced electricity in favor of more expensive and less reliable alternative sources. In both cases, NFIB contends that the EPA overstepped its legal authority.
