Mississippi Issues

Challenges facing NFIB/Mississippi in the 2012 will include:

    • Eliminating the inventory tax. Legislation introduced during the 2011 session would have phased out the inventory tax by 2018 and saved Mississippi businesses an estimated $141 million a year.
    • Passing the Strategic Planning and Performance Budgeting System Act, which will cyt wasteful spending and encourage state government to operate more efficiently, something would reduce the need for higher taxes.
    • Winning support for a Self-Employment Assistance Program, which will allow eligible unemployment benefit recipients to create their own businesses while reducing the pressure on Mississippi's state unemployment trust fund.
