Louisiana Issues

During the 2012 legislation, NFIB/Louisiana will fight for legislation to:

    • Require health insurers to disclose to the policy holder 90 days prior to renewal of the reasons that rates are increasing through listing all claims data information.
    • Make collective bargaining between labor unions and the public entities would be subject to the Open Meetings Law.
    • Hold tax and bond elections at the same time as statewide elections, when voter turnout historically has been the highest.
    • Change the rules so that retirement benefits for certain state employees is based on the highest 5 years of pay instead of the highest 3 years pay, a move that would reduce retirement pay as well as help pay off the debt.
