Issues
Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB was created to give small and independent businesses a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business.
Our issue agenda is determined by our members who vote on public policy positions through a unique ballot process. Each member gets one vote, and the clear majority sets the official NFIB position. Through this unique process, our positions advance the consensus of the small business community as a whole, rather than the narrow interests of any particular trade group.
Once the ballots are tallied, our lobbyists carry the message to Congress and state legislatures, backed by the clout of a powerful network of hundreds of thousands of small business owners. Our work in Washington, D.C. and all 50 states ensures small business owners have a strong voice and part in the development of legislation and regulatory policy.
After more than six decades of success in the public-policy arena, we remain true to our charter of advancing the concerns of small business owners.
