Elections

Our political department is committed to helping elect pro-small business candidates to the U.S. Congress and state governments across the country. We educate the small business community about candidates, races and issues, and encourage them to make a difference and protect free enterprise at the ballot box.

Featured Race: 2009 Gubernatorial Races in New Jersey and Virginia

Races for the governor’s mansions are heating up in New Jersey and Virginia. The results of these elections will serve as the first substantive indicator of the mood of American voters, and major issues affecting small businesses across the country, such as healthcare reform and the economy, are already playing a huge role in the campaigns.

Contact Your Lawmakers

Your personal voice is the most powerful tool to affect legislation that could help, or hurt, your small business. Explore our easy-to-use resource that connects you to your lawmakers with one easy click. Write or call your lawmaker about the most pressing small business issues, read our tips on how to best communicate with them, and learn about our members-only programs and activities.

Endorsed Candidates

Throughout the election cycle, we endorse candidates based exclusively on their positions and record on small business issues. Find out about our endorsement process and take a look at a list of endorsed candidates (Note: list of endorsed candidates is available to NFIB members only).

Key Races

We monitor political campaigns year-round and take action in the races that will have the biggest impact on the future of small business. Our political involvement includes voter education, voter registration and early voting education, grassroots mobilization, media campaigns and direct candidate support. Learn more about how we get involved and check out the key races in which we’re playing a major role.

Voter Resources

The small business community is one of the largest and most influential voting blocs in the country. We offer year-round resources – such as political analysis, issue briefs, candidate comparisons and voting records – and Election Day resources – such as voting registration and early voting information in each state – to ensure that our members are informed and prepared when they step into the voting booth.

Candidate Resources

We're dedicated to providing information about NFIB and small business to candidates running for office. Access our Federal Candidate Questionnaire and tell us where you stand on small business issues, and download the Business Candidate PDF, a guide that will provide you with the basics you need to know if you’re a small business owner starting a campaign.
