NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Announces Winner of the First Entrepreneurship Educator Award

Washington, D.C., June 16, 2014 — Today the National Federation of Independent Business Young Entrepreneur Foundation (YEF) announced Katherine Stenger as the first ever winner of the NFIB Entrepreneurship Educator Award, a scholarship program designed to reward teachers who promote entrepreneurship in the classroom. Katherine Stenger is a middle school teacher from Encinitas, California.

“The Entrepreneurship Educator Award is a new effort to honor hard-working teachers who have distinguished themselves in their pursuit of entrepreneurial education and we are pleased to announce Katherine Stenger as this year’s inaugural winner,” said Molly Young, Senior Manager of the Young Entrepreneur Foundation. “Entrepreneurial skills are essential to equip students for 21st century opportunities.  We are so excited to provide our nation’s educators an opportunity to be recognized for their efforts to teach America’s young people about the benefits of entrepreneurship and give them the resources to continue their efforts with successive classes of students.”

“It is tremendously gratifying to receive this award on behalf of my students. My students produced the video themselves, and just as the theme they chose revolved around trial and error, the creation of the video was itself a lesson in persistence,” said Katherine Stenger. “Learning entrepreneurship in the classroom enables kids to stretch their imaginations and take risks. I am excited to use this scholarship to further develop our entrepreneurship program.”

The new NFIB Entrepreneurship Educator Award is available to any educator of students (grades 1-12) who teaches entrepreneurship in a creative and successful manner. Applicants were asked to create and submit a video through which they answered the following question: What best practices have you used to teach entrepreneurship and what has been the outcome?

The winning video will be presented at the NFIB Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award Luncheon in Washington, D.C., on July 16, 2014, and the winner will receive a $1000 scholarship which they may use to further their entrepreneurial instruction or to obtain additional educational resources.
The winner was selected based on the creativity of their entrepreneurial education best practices, as well as the extent to which the video demonstrates the positive impact of entrepreneurial education.
