“The
people who are getting killed in this deal are small business people”

Washington,
D.C. (October 4, 2016)
– The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) loudly applauded
former President Bill Clinton today for pointing out at a campaign event that
Obamacare is a “crazy” system that is killing small businesses.

“He feels our pain,” said NFIB President and CEO Juanita Duggan, reviving a phrase Clinton
made famous when he was president.

The
people who are getting killed in this deal
(Obamacare) are small
business owners and individuals who make just a little too much to get any of
these subsidies,” said Clinton yesterday at a campaign event in Michigan.  The system “doesn’t make any sense.”

“That’s exactly what our members have been
telling us for years, and it’s exactly what our research shows,” said
Duggan.  According to the
2016
NFIB Problems and Priorities
report, a quadrennial
national survey of small business owners, the rising cost of health insurance
is far and away the top problem for small business owners.  A three-year
longitudinal study by NFIB also
found that health care costs have increased for the vast majority of small
business owners under the Affordable Care Act.

President Clinton perfectly explained how the
controversial law affects small business owners and others: “The people out
there busting it for sometimes 60 hours a week wake up and find that their
premiums have doubled and their coverage is cut in half.”

“There is a vice presidential debate this
evening and another presidential debate on Sunday,” said Duggan.  “Former President Bill Clinton makes a very
accurate and compelling case against the Affordable Care Act.  Millions of Americans, including small
business owners, would like to know whether the candidates agree with his
analysis and how they would fix the system.”
