Student Entrepreneurs Win College Scholarships

Date: May 22, 2014

NOTTINGHAM, PA. (May 14, 2014) – Two high school seniors who
started their own business received checks today toward college tuition from
the National Federation of Independent Business’ Young Entrepreneur
Foundation.  Anna Erkalova of Chalfont,
Pa. started a company that helps readers get out of out-of-print books. Nicholas
Rose of Havertown, Pa. designs and sells T-shirts and other clothing. Erkalova
is also one of five finalists vying for a national $25,000 YEF scholarship.

The two were nominated by NFIB members and business owners, JM
Herr of Herr’s Foods, in Nottingham Pa., and Walter Stump, of Walter Stump
Insurance Agency in Pine Grove, Pa.  The businessmen
presented the winners with checks at the James S. Herr Corporate Center on
Wednesday at 1pm. The students and their families then toured Herr’s Potato
Chip factory to see the large enterprise has grown from what J.M. Herr’s
father, J.S. Herr, began in 1946.

“We are excited about the future of these students and we are
grateful to the business owners who took the time to interview all the
applicants and select the winners,” said Kevin Shivers, executive state
director of NFIB Pa.  “It feels good to
know we are helping the future generation of business leaders.”

In the last ten years NFIB’s Young Entrepreneur Foundation has
given over 2.6 million dollars to approximately 2600 graduating high school
seniors across the U.S.  In Pennsylvania
since 2003 NFIB has given approximately $115,000 to 108 students in the state.

Winner Anna Erkalova plans to attend Princeton University and Nicholas
Rose will attend Temple University.  You
