It creates understanding and builds a relationship
Les Neilly, the owner of Neilly Canvas Goods in Pittsburgh, recently attended NFIB Pennsylvania’s Small Business Day at the Capitol in Harrisburg. He and other small-business owners met with legislative leaders and then visited with their individual lawmakers. In Neilly’s case, that was Rep. Adam Ravenstahl (D-Allegheny). The two men discussed issues of concern to small-business owners such as taxes and regulations. During the visit, Neilly invited Ravenstahl to visit his company in Pittsburgh where he manufactures truck tarps, awnings and more.
NFIB recommends that business owners invite their lawmakers to visit their company to build a better relationship. It also helps policymakers learn more about what it takes to operate a small business. They can see what issues the owner deals with daily.
Rep. Ravenstahl took Neilly up on that offer and visited Neilly Canvas Goods in late April. The lawmaker took a tour of the plant, spoke with Les Neilly about what he does and learned more about the operation. He also met employees.
If you would like to have a lawmaker visit your business, we at NFIB PA are happy to help you find out how to connect with your elected officials. We can also provide you with information about what key issues are under consideration that may impact small business.
