Date: October 02, 2017

Two Ohio State Students Join The Team

This Fall NFIB has two interns from The Ohio State University assisting the office in helping our 25,000 across the state to own, operate, and grow their businesses.

Colby Monachino is a graduate of Fairfield College Preparatory School in Connecticut. Their motto, “Men for Others,” speaks to a life of service and responsibility that still has a tell-tale meaning in his life today as a senior at Ohio State. Colby is studying Political Science specializing in Democracy and Law while also minoring in English. Prior to NFIB, Colby served as a Legislative Page at the Ohio House of Representatives and volunteered on the Republican Senate Campaign Committee last fall.

Throughout high school, he was a volunteer at Homes with Hope as well as Wakemen Boys and Girls Club serving as a mentor to inner-city children in Connecticut. Actively involved in the Ohio State Greek life community previously serving as Rush Chairmen, and currently, the Executive Programmer for his fraternity. He is also a member of the Ohio State Club Lacrosse team, and formerly, the team manager.

During his tenure he hopes to learn about the power of issue advocacy while Interning at NFIB. Colby is a senior in college.

Colby Monachino and Ian Lawson, NFIB/Ohio’s Legislative Assistant Interns for the 2017-18 school year.

Ian Lawson is currently a fourth year Senior at The Ohio State University. He will graduate in the spring with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, specializing in finance and a Minor in Leadership Studies. He is a graduate of St. Francis DeSales High school here in Columbus and was born and raised in nearby Westerville, Ohio.

Ian is actively involved on Ohio State’s campus and in the local Columbus community. He serves as President of his fraternity at Ohio State, is a member of the Undergraduate Finance Association, and volunteers at Riverside hospital on a biweekly basis.

Ian joined the NFIB Ohio team at the start of this school year in hopes of gaining valuable political and business experience. While working at NFIB, he hopes to gain a better understanding and appreciation of small business and the work behind advocating on their behalf. He has thoroughly enjoyed his first month in the Ohio office and is looking forward to continued exposure to the current political and business climates.
