Adult Comfort Care Services Founded On Inspiration

Date: May 18, 2016

Melva Sherwood is the owner of Adult Comfort Care Services
in Vermilion, OH. The company was founded in 2005 when she was inspired to
become a nurse after finding out her mother had dementia and Alzheimer’s. Melva
saw a need and opportunity for in-home assisted care and started her own
business.

The scope of Adult Comfort Care Services is in-home assisted
living, nutrition coaching, and a focus on Alzheimer’s and dementia. A key
aspect of what sets Melva’s business apart from her competitors is that she
goes into the homes of potential clients to establish a relationship with them.

She also conducts thorough background checks and private
investigations on applicants seeking employment for Adult Comfort Services.
These investigation services cost roughly $3,000 but are necessary due to the
drug epidemic and liability because it is difficult to determine from an
interview whether a potential employee is suitable for the position.

NFIB initially drew Melva in when the local NFIB sales representative explained the core principles of NFIB to her. Over the years, sh has continued her membership with NFIB because “NFIB is promoting our right to grow our business. Around every turn, there is a new regulation that hinders our ability to expand and create jobs.”

Currently, the biggest challenge faced by Adult Comfort Care Services is that Medicaid source insurance only employees to work 32 hours per week, if it is higher, on average, they can be removed from the plan. In other words, you can only make so money each week, or you will be kicked off the plan. She also sees workers compensation at the state and Obamacare at the federal level, are areas that NFIB could focus on to help Adult Comfort Care Services legislatively.

Melva says the best part about being a small-business owner is having the freedom of operating the business the right way by setting her policies and agenda that allows her to provide excellent service to their clients.
