NFIB once again had a seat at the table when Vice President Mike Pence met with small business owners and elected officials in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, on Thursday, March 2. The main topic of the meeting was the rising cost of healthcare.

Before addressing employees of Frame USA in Springdale, Ohio, the vice president met privately with about 18 small business owners, including NFIB Ohio members Steve Schramm, Chris Ellis, Rep. Scott Lipps, Doug Johnson, Steve Lippert, Todd Wilber, and Jennifer Clippard-Caunin.

Also in the room was NFIB/Ohio Vice President & Executive Director Roger Geiger Grassroots Manager Joe Hirabayashi. Others around the table at the listening session included local small business owners and Secretary Tom Price of the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Ohio entrepreneurs told the vice president and other elected officials at the meeting about how healthcare costs make it difficult for them to grow their companies and create jobs. “It was a great opportunity for our members to address how the current healthcare system is a burden on their businesses,” Jones said. “It was clear to everyone at the table that this administration understands small businesses are struggling to continue to offer healthcare to their employees.”

Indeed, in his speech later that morning, where an additional 20 members of NFIB joined the group, Pence said, the “Obamacare nightmare is about to be over.”
