NFIB Urges WV House to Pass Balanced Budget Resolution

Date: March 09, 2016

Gil White, state director of the National Federation of
Independent Business, released the following statement today concerning HCR 36,
a resolution supporting a federal balanced budget amendment:

“Congress
needs to learn a lesson from small business and learn to live within its means.

“Congress
thinks if you want to spend more money, you either raise taxes or go deeper and
deeper into debt and let our kids and grandkids sort it out later, but that has
to stop.

“That’s
why NFIB/West Virginia is asking the House to pass HCR 36. This legislation
authorizes state delegates to attend a limited convention of the states, as
authorized by Article V of the U.S. Constitution, solely for the purpose of
proposing a federal balanced budget amendment.

“Thirty-four
states must authorize such a convention. Right now, the total stands at 27.
Thirty-eight states would have to approve any agreed-upon language in order to
ratify the amendment.

“If
small-business owners in West Virginia can stick to a budget, so can our
politicians in Washington.”
