OLYMPIA, Wash., June 6, 2016—Sen. John Braun, R-Centralia, was one of only three state senators with a 100-percent, pro-small-business voting record for 2015-16, making him a Guardian of Small Business, according to the legislative scorecard released this week by the state’s largest and leading small-business association.
The National Federation of Independent Business also recognized Braun as one of its Outstanding Legislators for the 64th Washington State Legislature for his work on issues vital to the survival of the state’s primary job creators. “Sen. John Braun has quickly become one of the Legislature’s most effective small business champions,” said NFIB/Washington State Director Patrick Connor. “His mastery of complex tax and regulatory issues is impressive for any lawmaker, let alone one in his first term.”
“I am honored by this recognition,” Braun said. “I take small-business issues very seriously. These businesses often face a difficult regulatory and tax environment in our state, and the Legislature must do all it can to make sure that these engines of economic growth can flourish, hire more people and keep our state’s economy moving forward.”
During the 64th Legislature, Braun sponsored 21 bills of interest to NFIB and its small-business-owning members on topics such as workers’ compensation reform, workplace safety and health, prevailing wages, collective bargaining transparency, regulatory reform, and the state operating budget that shielded small businesses from increased taxes.
“It’s clear from the long list of legislative solutions he has championed that Sen. Braun not only understands the hurdles entrepreneurs face, but also knows what it takes to overcome them, allowing entrepreneurs to focus on what they do best – creating jobs and opportunities in our great state,” Connor added.
