NFIB Joins Other Groups in Calling for Cap on Business License Fees

Date: May 06, 2015

NFIB/South Carolina small-business member Elizabeth Trenbeath joined State Director Ben Homeyer and other business leaders at a news conference today in Columbia to urge lawmakers to approve a $100 cap on business license fees.

Trenbeath, owner of Snelling Staffing in Lexington, said existing state law essentially punishes small businesses for having operations in more than one community.

Homeyer said after the news conference, “The way things stand today, you have to have a business license in every jurisdiction where you have a physical location. If you have locations in three cities or towns, you would have to buy three separate business licenses, and each one would probably cost you over $100.

“Capping business license fees would encourage businesses to expand and create jobs,” Homeyer said.
